The Vuong Family Palace, built in the early 20th century (1919–1928), was the residence of Vuong Chinh Duc, a powerful leader and a respected figure of the Hmong ethnic group. Known as the “Hmong King,” Vuong Chinh Duc was influential in uniting the Hmong people and fostering trade, especially in the opium business, which was a major part of the region’s economy during that time.

This two-story mansion became a symbol of power and affluence for the Hmong people, attracting admiration and intrigue from both locals and visitors alike. Today, it stands as a reminder of Ha Giang’s rich and complex history.

1. A Fusion of Architectural Styles

The palace combines Hmong traditional elements with Chinese and French architecture, reflecting the cultural diversity of the era.

Constructed from stone, pinewood, and terracotta tiles, the building boasts intricate carvings of dragons, phoenixes, and clouds, symbolizing power and prosperity.

The estate is surrounded by protective stone walls and strategically placed in the Sa Phin valley, a location chosen for its auspicious feng shui.

2. A Glimpse into the Past

Wander through 64 rooms, each showcasing artifacts, furniture, and tools that belonged to the Vuong family. From vintage opium beds to antique coins and ceremonial wear, the palace tells a story of wealth and influence.
